Robust 3D Action Recognition through Sampling Local Appearances and Global Distributions

چکیده
3D action recognition has broad applications in human-computer interaction and intelligent surveillance. However, recognizing similar actions remains challenging since previous literature fails to capture motion and shape cues effectively from noisy depth data. In this paper, we propose a novel two-layer Bag-of-Visual-Words (BoVW) model, which suppresses the noise disturbances and jointly encodes both motion and shape cues. First, background clutter is removed by a background modeling method that is designed for depth data. Then, motion and shape cues are jointly used to generate robust and distinctive spatialtemporal interest points (STIPs): motion-based STIPs and shapebased STIPs. In the first layer of our model, a multi-scale 3D local steering kernel (M3DLSK) descriptor is proposed to describe local appearances of cuboids around motion-based STIPs. In the second layer, a spatial-temporal vector (STV) descriptor is proposed to describe the spatial-temporal distributions of shapebased STIPs. Using the Bag-of-Visual-Words (BoVW) model, motion and shape cues are combined to form a fused action representation. Our model performs favorably compared with common STIP detection and description methods. Thorough experiments verify that our model is effective in distinguishing similar actions and robust to background clutter, partial occlusions and pepper noise.

Hybridization of Facial Features and Use of Multi Modal Information for 3D Face Recognition
Despite of achieving good performance in controlled environment, the conventional 3D face recognition systems still encounter problems in handling the large variations in lighting conditions, facial expression and head pose The humans use the hybrid approach to recognize faces and therefore in this proposed method the human face recognition ability is incorporated by combining global and local ...
متن کاملA novel Local feature descriptor using the Mercator projection for 3D object recognition
Point cloud processing is a rapidly growing research area of computer vision. Introducing of cheap range sensors has made a great interest in the point cloud processing and 3D object recognition. 3D object recognition methods can be divided into two categories: global and local feature-based methods. Global features describe the entire model shape whereas local features encode the neighborhood ...

Representing 3D models in diverse fields have automatically paved the way of storing, indexing, classifying, and retrieving 3D objects. Classification and retrieval of 3D models demand that the 3D models represent in a way to capture the local and global shape specifications of the object. This requires establishing a 3D descriptor or signature that summarizes the pivotal shape properties of th...
متن کاملHuman Action Recognition Using 3 D Reconstruction Data
In this paper, the problem of human action recognition using 3D reconstruction data is deeply investigated. 3D reconstruction techniques are employed for addressing two of the most challenging issues related to human action recognition in the general case, namely view-variance (i.e. when the same action is observed from different viewpoints) and the presence of (self-) occlusions (i.e. when for...
متن کاملFace Recognition Using 2D and 3D Multimodal Local Features
Machine recognition of faces is very challenging because it is an interclass recognition problem and the variation in faces is very low compared to other biometrics. Global features have been extensively used for face recognition however they are sensitive to variations caused by expressions, illumination, pose, occlusions and makeup. We present a novel 3D local feature for automatic face recog...
